Use Room Estimator
- From the Design Tools menu (next to the Reports tab), select Room Estimator
This is an estimation tool based on the IES Zonal Cavity method. It is reasonably accurate for rectangular spaces with uniform lighting layouts and is a great way to begin designing your lighting system.
- Enter room Length of 160 feet (you can tab to next field)
- Enter room width of 120 feet
- Enter room height of 18 feet
- Leave the Workplane Height at 2.5’ and the Suspension Length at 1.5’ (Suspension Length is distance from ceiling to luminous area).
- Click the reflectance tab, note the reflectances are 80/50/20 (ceiling/walls/floor). Change the ceiling reflectance to 70% (enter 0.7)
- Enter the desired Illuminance value of 25 fc (note the software is set to not deliver anything less than 25 fc as “Minimum Allowable” is selected)
The calculated luminaire quantity is 63. The software spaces the luminaires such that the end spacing (wall to first luminaire) is half of the luminaire spacing.
You can introduce constraints on the spacing’s in the Luminaire Layout area if desired (we won’t for this example), and you can also constrain to a ceiling grid size (not required here).
You can print this layout in a nice formatted presentation from the Print button (top left). For this course we will proceed to export the layout into the AGi32 Model space.
